Lords Prayer

Before we begin today’s sermon would you join me in praying the words our Lord taught us to pray?

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done
in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: Amen

Introduction

Please stand for the reading of God’s Word.

Romans 10:13-15 ESV  For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  (14)  How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?  (15)  And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

  • This year has been crazy, hasn’t it.
    • This WEEK has been crazy!
    • And I think it is very likely that you, like myself and many others, have spent the last few months, but especially the last week thinking about The United States of America.
    • About our politics, our elections, or sin, or downward spile…
      • Thinking about how we can find a way out of this mess.
      • Wondering if these are all signs of the end time.
      • Clicking the refresh button ever 5 minutes to see if any more votes have been counted in Nevada.
    • And can I tell you the truth guys? Can I keep it real for a moment…
      • I am getting a little bit sick of it…
        • Sick of my own emotional attachments to this country.
        • Sick of people desperately trying to make the gospel fit into a two party political system.
        • Sick of people thinking that all God cares about is The United States…
          • Though I don’t think any Christian would actually say that… their words and actions prove it.
          • LISTEN: Very little to nothing at all that happens in America has anything to do with the end of the World.
            • Our nation… our continent, is never ever mentioned or prophesied about.
            • That doesn’t mean that God doesn’t care about America, not at all, it just means we are not the center of the Universe, we are not the center of Christianity, we are not the center of Prophecy.
            • We are just another nation, like hundreds of others.
            • And if we get wicked enough that does not mean that God is going to end the world…
              • It just means He is going to end us.
              • It happened to Babylon, and Persia, and Rome, it certainly can happen here, and if Jesus tarry’s it likely will happen here.
  • Why do I say all of this?
    • Is it because I hate America?
      • No, I love this nation deeply! And am so grateful to be an American!
    • But I say it, in the midst of political turmoil and unrest, to remind us…
    • It’s Not About America!

  • I am going to spend the next few moments reading some scriptures… I want you to listen carefully and see what they all have in common.

Mark 16:15 ESV  And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.

Psalms 96:3 ESV  Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!

Acts 13:47 ESV  For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’”

Matthew 24:14 ESV  And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Acts 1:8 ESV  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

1 Chronicles 16:24 ESV  Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!

Luke 24:46-47 ESV  and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,  (47)  and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

Mark 13:10 ESV  And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations.

Revelation 14:6 ESV  Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people.

Matthew 28:19-20 ESV  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  (20)  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

  • What do all of these verses have in common?
    • They all talk about spreading the Gospel to the WHOLE world.
    • To every nation
    • To every language
    • To every people group
  • Our job as Christians has always been to “Go”! It has never been to “Stay”.
    • Our jobs as Christians are not to stay in Eastern Iowa.
    • Our job as Christians is not to build a nice home and have a lavish life.
    • Our job as Christians is not to build up a great career and set up for a stabilize retirement.
      • OUR JOB IS TO GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS
      • OUR JOB IS TO GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES
      • OUR JOB IS TO GO!
    • That doesn’t mean staying in Eastern Iowa is a sin, but it shouldn’t be our goal.
    • That doesn’t mean having a nice home and life is a sin, but it is not our job.
    • That doesn’t mean that we can’t have successful careers and smart investments… but that is not our calling.
      • OUR JOB IS TO GO!

Matthew 28:19-20 ESV  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  (20)  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

  • Our Job is to…?

  • Two Billion People have no access to Jesus…
    • No Access to a church.
    • No Access to a Bible.
    • No Access to a Christian who can tell them about Jesus.
      • Why? Because we, as the Global Church of Christ, have not been going!
        •  We have been staying.
        • We have been vacationing.
        • We have been focused on ourselves and our own backyards.
      • But we haven’t been going!
    • But, as there has always been, there are a few churches working to change this… there are churches all around the world, though few in number, who are going, who are sending, who are praying for all nations…
  • This is one of them:

  • This is Victory Family Center, the third largest church in Singapore.
    • This is the man who started the church and was Amanda and My pastor for the year we lived in Singapore, his name is reverend Rick Seaward.

Show Rick-Seaward.jpg

  • He, when he was 20 years old, planted Victory Family Center in Singapore, a nation that at the time had almost no churches and was nearly completely unreached.
    • His parents and Grandparents had given their lives to missions in China and so Rick was raised in Singapore, where he started Victory Family Center.
    • VFC is now the third largest church in Singapore with about 10,000 members.
    • When Pastor Rick started the church there wasn’t even 10,000 Christians in Singapore.
      • In on generation, Singapore was reached for Christ because of men like Pastor Rick Seaward.
    • But Pastor Rick wasn’t just focused on Singapore, he truly believed every word of the great commission. Go into EVERY nation and make disciples.
    • So since the beginning of VFC, they have been planting churches all over the world. Around this time last year they planted their twenty-thousandth church! They have two churches around the world for every 1 person who attends their Sunday services in Singapore.
      • If it was not for this man, and his church, Christian Life Church would not be here.
      • We exist because Pastor Rick realized he had not “gone” to all nations to make disciples if he had not yet sent missionaries to America.
      • So he Sent Amanda and I to start a church here.
      • And Victory Family Centre payed for all of it, our plan tickets, rent, salary, missionaries… they paid for it all through Mission Faith Pledges.
  • Pastor Rick Seaward is a mighty man of God, and in 2018, while living on the mission field in Brazil, he gave his life for Jesus.
    • His life started and ended on the mission field, and of all the churches VFC has planted with missionaries from Singapore, he was the first missionary to die on the field from VFC.
      • I hope one day my legacy is like his. Not famous, but living and dying to make Jesus famous.
  • So, it is now our turn, church, to start adding to the number of churches on the mission field, it is now our turn to start adding to that 20k church number.
  • I want to show you a map the outlines the remaining work that needs to be done by followers of Christ.

Show Unreached-Map.png

  • There are three colors here, green, red, and yellow.
    • Green means there are plenty of Bible believing churches and Christians in that area to keep the Gospel spreading and healthy.
    • Yellow means there are some bible believing churches there, but not enough to service the community. Or it means that there are plenty of churches there, but not ones that believe in the fullness of Christ and Scripture… they are churches that preach an empty gospel.
    • Red is the worst. Red means there is almost NO bible believing Christians there. Which means the people in the red areas have no way to even HEAR about Jesus.
  • Now let’s look at where we support churches thus far:

Show Unreached-Map-2.png

  • Here we can see where CLC has influence,
    • Of course here in easter Iowa.
    • We support Pastor Mussa, who we heard from earlier, here in Jamaica.
    • Impacto Ministries is here in Guatemala.
    • And Kingdom Life is here in Sierra Leon.
      • You will notice that all of our mission endeavors so far in in the green, with Kingdom Life being the closest to the red and probably most influential of all our works to the un reached.
        • And it’s ok that we are working in the green, because the great commission is to GO to all nations. And we have started doing that.
    • But I say it’s time we become a church affecting the red, amen?

Show Unreached-Map-3.png

  • That’s why our next mission target is Japan. The last “1st world” nation that is unreached.

Show Target-Japan-2020.png

  • Guys I want us to be fervently praying for Japan, praying that God will make a way for us to go there.
    • We were called to plant in Japan by VFC Singapore, so we will be working with them.
    • The International House of Prayer, in Kansas City is also working with VFC and other churches to reach Japan. They confirmed our call to go when I went to IHOP last year!
      • GOD IS DOING SOMETHING GREAT IN JAPAN! I want to be a part of it.
      • May our next mission trip be to the land of the rising sun!

Conclusion

  • Conclude with the well story
    • Not everyone can go down the well, and not everyone needs to.
    • Some need to make the rope.
    • Others need to hold it.
    • And others yet net to go down the well and find the lost.
      • It is a team effort.
      • You may not be able to go, you may not feel called to go.
      • But can you help make the rope by being faithful in mission giving?
      • Can you help hold the rope by being faithful in prayer?
      • And if you feel called to be the one to go, I want to do everything to help you so that you don’t need to provide your own rope, and you don’t have to hold yourself up. Amen?!

Matthew 28:18-20 ESV  And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  (19)  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  (20)  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
